2012 Olympics ‘will boost IT contractor jobs market’
IT contractors operating in the UK could be tempted to look for placements in London in the coming months following the comments of one recruitment expert.
The city is set to host the Olympic Games in 2012 and, according to Langley James, IT contractors stand to benefit hugely from the event.
James Toovey, founder and director of the organisation, said IT professionals should definitely consider a move to the capital to take advantage of the opportunities.
The expert said there will be a significant boost to the IT jobs market for short-term contractors on the back of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
"I think there will be [more jobs] for the short-term contractors, because of the weight of workload that's going to be around and also because of the amount of time off people are going to be taking to go to the Olympics. So for contractors, there's going to be a boost," he explained.
Mr Toovey added that while contractors will benefit from the Games, there may not be much of a long-term legacy for IT workers.
"It's more for the contractors, apart from new ventures that will [start up] on the legacy that's left, [for which] there will be some new positions. The bigger area of growth is going to be for the contract market, because people are going to be off during that busy period," he added.
